According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), the aim of the research was to study the delivery of radio-drugs to cancer tumors by using nanostructured materials to diagnose and cure cancer. Results of this study can help cancer treatment with high efficiency but fewer side effects.
Porous silica has been used in this to stabilize nanodrug and carry it to cancer tumors. Porous silica increases efficiency of drug stabilization due to its high specific area and its nanoscaled pores. As a result, drug delivery process is carried out with higher efficiency.
A porphyrin complex of copper-64 radiodrug was synthesized due to the diagnosis and therapeutic properties of copper-64 isotope; then, biological information such as proliferation coefficient, quality control and tissue transmission studies were investigated in various types of wild rats. Next, the anticancer drug was stabilized on MCM-41 nanoporous silica functionalized with amine groups to study target delivery of the drug.
Observation of the accumulation of complex stabilized on MCM-41 nanoporous silica in tumor, quick repelling, short half-life of copper-64 and lower radiation for the patients make this stabilized radio-drug as an appropriate option to be used in imaging and PET future studies.
